Love Growing Cold?

Reading the book of Matthew, I was brought up short by verses 12 and 13 in Chapter 24: “Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.” I had always taken this to refer to the end times and how people just aren’t going to care anymore. They’re not going to care about each other at all. But what I suddenly realized is that it’s not about the rest of the world. It’s a warning to God’s children. And it's not only about the end times, it's about all times. Sometimes things get so bad that we too don't care anymore. We develop a protective attitude of "Fine! Die in your stupid!" The love we are supposed to have will “grow cold.” We will be so overwhelmed with the ugliness and everything that’s going on that we just won’t love anymore. Very dangerous since Jesus said we will be known by our love.
